Collection Schedule

When attending our HHW collections please stay in your vehicle and we suggest that you wear a mask for your protection and ours. Thank you.


Collections are held from May through October only. There are no collections during the winter months. All sites are open to any Marquette County resident with only Household Hazardous Waste. The collections are held at one of the following locations:

  • The City of Marquette Rubbish/Compost Site​ is located at 1415 Pioneer Rd, Marquette.     (Please note: Marquette collections are on Thursdays – see schedule below for exact days)
  • The West End Transfer Station is located at 2150 US 41 West, Ishpeming (The north side of U.S. 41 west of Ishpeming just west of the DNR field station).                                                                                      (Please note: West End Transfer Station collections are on Wednesdays – see schedule below for exact days)


Garbage disposal will not be accepted at the HHW collections.

​If you would like to dispose of garbage you must get a landfill permit from your municipality and dispose of your waste during regular business hours Monday – Friday 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.



By appointment, Marquette County Residents may deliver their household hazardous waste to the Marquette County Landfill during regular business hours:  Monday-Friday 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.  In order to provide efficient service, please contact us in advance at 249-4125 to schedule a delivery.  Same day service is available.

Commercial waste small quantity generators interested in utilizing a Co-op program for hazardous waste disposal, contact MCSWMA at (906) 249-4125. For further information concerning hazardous waste disposal, contact Bradley Austin, Director of Operations, at (906) 249-4125 ext. 305.


All fluorescent bulbs must be in boxes. All other HHW materials brought to the collection site should be in their original container if possible. If you cannot bring the material in the original container, please label the container as to prevent dangerous mixing of chemicals. Different materials should never be mixed. If a container is old or damaged, please place it in a clear plastic bag.
